I have an issue on my 09 wrx, but havent gone to the dealership or really investigated it yet. I get a little squeaking noise during idle. It almost sounds like a
belt squeak, but when i press the clutch pedal, it goes away. It can't be heard unless
the radio is turned off. Is this the same issue you had? BTW, I had my motor
replaced at 14k. I'm about 20k now. Not positive if i they replaced the belts, but it
    never squeaked before.

I think your issue is your throw out bearing. Quite a few have had warranty on them. There are some threads around describing it in more detail

Doing this tomorrow morning... I know you used 2 washers but have you had any issues with leaks? Ill probably paint over the exterior side to prevent some rust too. Im not sure how much water really makes its way down there but would rather do this once. Also how long of an extension did you use??? Thanks!

So the welds break that hold the clutch pedal assembly not the firewall cracking around the clutch master cylinder? I wonder if the grimspeed master cylinder brace really would help then?

I hate Subaru. This is an OBVIOUS problem with our cars, yet they will deny warranty on it because they think it is something that us evil "street draggers" are doing to cause this problem. I was concerned that my firewall might be cracked, so I took it to the dealer. He said that they would be unable to warranty my car, even if it is a factory defect, because I have modified it. I know that is against the law, but it will probably cost more money/effort to fight them in court over it than it is to just fix it myself.

While this is a great write-up, and I will probably be doing this myself this summer, I find it absolutely pathetic that it has to come to this. Why can't Subaru just acknowledge their fault, and fix our fucking cars?

    /Rant

+1 for you, 08lrwrx for a great write up, and DIY solution to Subaru's problem.

Did it and it works.... So happy that the sound and shitty pedal feel is gone. I still have a little squeak when slipping the clutch in first but it's WAY better.

The bolt that goes in at an angle is a real bitch. Make sure you have a socket joint to hold the bolt head while someone tightens the nut from the outside.

I'm gonna rip everything apart again at some point and re-do that bolt because I forgot to put a washer on the interior side and want to add that and crank it down a bit more. Hope that will help will the remaining noise. Even if it doesn't go away 100% this was way worth it.

    EDIT********** Sound came back.

++ Thanks for this... I'll have to look into doing this soon. Flushed my slave cylinder for my clutch thinking that was it.

Yea I'm glad it's working too... I'm sure when it gets warmer the small squeak that is left will go away. You in a cold climate?
