Ok so I just got my WRX back from the dealership the second time. I took it last week and they told me the cause of the noise was that the spring and pedals need to be replaced. I didn't believe them and they insisted it would solve the noise. So they ordered the parts and they installed it today. Got the car back and of course it is making the SAME noise. So then the adviser tells me that they believe the noise is coming from the brake master cylinder and they ordered one to replace it.
At this point I asked him if he even took a look at the welds on the bracket that seems to be a major issue on these cars. I even told him a local forum member had the same issue that they failed to fix and eventually led to the guy's entire pedal assembly coming off and the dealership then finally fixing it. He basically tells me he has to follow the procedure SOA sets for them and that he can't just order to take my dash apart to fix the welds just yet. He admitted that he doesn't believe the brake master cylinder will most likely fail to fix the issue at hand.
If that is the case, he told me it took more than 2 months for them to fix the welds on the other local that had the pedal assembly fail. I can't believe it would take that long to fix the welds. I know it's a lot of work to take the dash apart and then put it back in, but more than 2 months??? WTF! Anyone who had their welds fixed by a dealership, how long was your car down?
might have to try this this coming long weekend. can't believe my 08sti with 38k miles has this problem already![]()
Well my dealership got the authorization from SOA to reweld the two POS welds on the firewall. Service adviser said more than likely it will take 2 months to fix. Looks like I'll be driving a base impreza for that time >![]()
I read a post recently where the dealership quoted 2+ months to do but wound up taking care of it in 8 days...gonna be taking mine into the dealer tomorrow with the same issues >hopefully all goes well and I can get SOA on my side! How did it wind up for you reaper?
Lol that was me. Yeah they got it done faster than they initially told me. All good so far. Zero noise or sounds when I press/depress the clutch. They should give you a loner that will bore you to death but it is a much needed fix both for safety reasons and to get rid of that annoying noise which just gets worse.

Does this same issue cause the grindy clutch feel too? I kinda have the squeak sometimes, mostly when its wet and cold. But I usually have a grindy feel in my pedal. Almost like there's sand stuck in the pivot point or something. I've heard its a rusty throw out bearing, but they replaced that last time I was at the dealership. I'm gonna check my welds when I get off work and do this if that's what it is
