This is a pretty bad statement and has nothing to do with one another. Just because a car has a lot of power doesnt mean it can't stop. in fact the 09 stops 10 feet or more sooner then the 08 with the same brakes and suspension. The only thing changed was the tires. If I had 1000wph doing 80 on the highway and needed to stop, my 80-0 wouldn't be any different then an aftermarket setup. Doing above 80 is just stupid and what happens is deserved.

Above 80 on a race track however is different due to the longer time frame the brakes are engaged to the rotors from say 120-0 vs 80-0. Also for long periods of time doing many laps. That's when brake fad sets in and OEM parts start failing but this can be seen on a OEM 2.5i with 170 crank horse power.

For the most of us who drive smart no upgraded braking is needed know matter how much power you have unless you race where you should.
Who runs the speed limit with 400WHP? If you say you do, you lie.

even if you dont run the speed limit your not using your brakes. i get on the highway all the time pushing my 330/360 from 1st to 4th to about 90-100mph. but then i air brake it down to 65-70 where i should be. i didnt use my brakes so why whould i need to upgrade?

if a deer ran out in front of me it still wouldnt matter what power i had. if a 2.5i was doing 80mph (65 is the limit here were a cop will nail you) with my tires he could stop in the same amount of time i could. 80 mph isnt a long enough time to fad stock pads down to zero. the statement makes no sense is all im saying.

now if you had 400HP and were WOT on a track or a section of road where a normal car could only achieve say 80 mph but you can reach 120 mph and you did this over and over say at least 3 times, then brakes could come into affect as fad would start to form but who does this on the street?

again only time brakes are needed is if you throw many many hard brakes at the OEM ones. but to do this on a street car on the street you would have to be running around so illegal, you'll end up killing yourself or going to jail and losing your lisence for a long long time.

You can overheat the brakes on any car and beat on them until they fail.

The issue with power and braking is that in general people don't accelerate until a certain speed, they accelerate for a certain amount of time. Nobody wants to let off the gas 1 second after getting on it, so in general you tend to stay on the gas for 3-5 seconds at a time I would estimate. But when you make way more power, this same period of acceleration gets you up to much higher speeds. So then you need to get back down to normal speeds, usually somewhat quickly. I don't know about you, but when I make a blast up to 100 I usually BRAKE back to 60 as I'm not real interested in hanging out in the "ticket me" range of speeds any longer than I "have" to. And of course if you are braking from 100 to 60 repeatedly versus 75 to 60 you are going to tax the brakes a lot more.

    Agree with hiboost.
With the speeds you can acheive with anything over 300WHP, you want an "insurance policy" in at least better pads, lines and fluid.
It's a safety thing. And don't tell me in a stock 08 (even with the same tires) you could outbrake me with HPS pads, SS lines and new fluid from 120. There is no way in hell.
I was just sending a jesting stab, no harm intended.

Wow this thread has gone awry...

OP Nice numbers. Posting baseline would be even better. Congrats on hitting 400whp and on snow tires.

Tell me about it.... Thought it was a dyno thread. Brakes are on the way boys....and since its snowing all the time I'm lucky if I'm doing 55mph anywhere let alone triple digits

@IceMan22 could you please PM me Dave's contact info? I recently bought a wrx that was tuned by him and I wanted to reach out and see if he can make some updates to the tune. Thanks in advance!
