Boost Comparison (20psi vs. 24psi vs. 27psi) with Virtual Dyno and 50-100MPH Time

I decided to do some boost vs. power comparisons (just for fun). First I started with a few logs with the MBC backed out all the way. The car was hitting about 20psi and was basically flat to redline. Pulling them up in Virtual Dyno showed nice consistent results!

Because that looked good, I decided to turn the MBC up halfway to where it normally is at. I did a couple logs and it peaked close to 24psi, with a little taper down to around 22psi. Then to finish it off I turned the MBC up to my normal spot and it was just barely touching 27psi and then tapering down close to 24-25psi.

Looking at the boost and torque (for the 24psi and 27psi graphs especially) you can see that I probably did have a slight uphill for run 1 and slight downhill for run 2 of each set. This slightly affected spool and peak torque. But overall the results are very consistent.

And here is the plot with just one run from each boost setting. Solid, incremental gains with each change in boost. This is a nice, easy way to see how increasing the boost can really bump up the power (assuming the turbo is still able to flow enough air).

I took speedo videos for these runs and the 50-100mph times were as follows:

    20psi (400WHP Dynojet): 5.4 seconds
    24psi (440WHP Dynojet): 4.9 seconds
    27psi (480WHP Dynojet): 4.4 seconds

I use the 50-100mph time as a benchmark for how quick my car is in the real world. Dyno plots only tell so much, actually seeing acceleration times helps to put it all in perspective. All of the runs were done twice (once in each direction) and the results were identical (peak numbers within 2WHP in Virtual Dyno and 50-100mph times within 0.05 seconds in the videos), so I think the results are pretty solid. There will be different results tuning, your car, your mods, and many other factors. So take it with a grain of salt, but I'm just glad to see the VD numbers do seem to go up inline with the 50-100mph times going down.

Here's the speedo video if anyone is interested:
