So, it's not a wrx, but I thought perhaps some of you might find it interesting.

This is my first analysis on my freight truck.
181,000 miles and 12,000 on the oil.
higher viscosity @12K miles then RotellaT6 @3K miles..??

    Over a year bump!

Just got my diagnostic back from Blackstone. It's nice to know I can run the oil quite a bit longer and that overall my EJ25 is a happy lil guy overall on the TP2 tune. This was an oil change at 3900 miles and I use the Suby Dyno oil and OE filters.......It's hard to beat the $20 oil change my local dealership gives me, screw taking off the lower engine cover and recycling the oil on my own.

    Cheers, click to expand.

Just got another email after sending I some additional info about my WRX to Blackstone and asking about a few variances from norm on my report.

    Here's the response:
"John: Thanks for the e-mail and extra info on your Subaru. It sounds like a fun ride and I don't blame you for wanting to hold on to it as long as you can. Boron, sodium, calcium, and magnesium are all additives in the oil itself. Their levels will change depending on the type of oil you use and high/low readings aren't usually anything to worry about. Sodium can also show anti-freeze, though I didn't call anti-freeze on this report because your wear looks so good and no significant potassium was found. Potassium is another marker for coolant.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Sincerely,
    Ryan Stark
    Blackstone Labs"

Interesting to see the UOA reports from different year cars, oil brands and filters. But can any general rules besides changing oil often can be made? I know that many folks don't recommend Mobile 1 yet the UOA reports for those using it don't look that bad or different than other brands. Are there any difference if you use different filters? Many do use the stock blues.

I think honestly the only way to know is to get an oil test done, and let the test show you what you need to do. I've been running Mobile 1 from the beginning besides when I let the stealership do the first couple and judging from the oil reports, standard Mobile 1 5w-30 is just fine in my engine. I religiously change my oil and oil filters though, so it could just be down to thorough maintenance. Like most info on the internet, just take it with a grain of salt.

Think you're right that it's more a factor on how you treat your vehicle and that you often change the oil with recommended oil type and weight and proper oil filter.

Latest test, past warranty now and still running strong on original 'bad' silver bearings and Mobil1.
I've come to the decision of preempting a spun bearing and am probably going to replace the shortblock before the silver runs out and bearings go...
