I got the car washed after a couple of months of dirt collection, so I figured I'd snap a few pics. Here's my first attempt at HDRI. Comments or tips are more than welcome. :)

ok I'm a noob. What is HDRI? My wife wishes you won't tell me cause she knows I'll want it. You've been warned.

Lol...send my apologies to your wife. HDRI stands for high dynamic range imaging. Basically you're taking multiple pictures of the same scene using varying exposure levels and then combining them into a single image.

couple of nice pics there. the studio that i work at does a lot of HDRI...mostly spherical environments. we shoot backgrounds with an HDR camera called a Spheron...it's wicked awesome...too much to own personally, but a nice tool to have access too ;) Are you shooting multiple exposures with an SLR and then, for lack of a better term, mashing them together in photoshop? or are you shooting raws and then re-exposing the shots in photoshop, and layering them on top of each other? either way works, just curious. it's a slick technique.

if anyone's interested in some of the work i do...here's a link http://www.withatwiststudio.com

Thanks for the feedback guys. I took the photos in raw format using a Canon Rebel XTi and then I "mashed" them together using Photomatix. I've been wanting to experiment with HDRI for quite awhile now, but never had the time to actually go out and shoot anything. After seeing the results and reading everyone's feedback, I'm more motivated to go out and shoot.

Thanks for the link box, I definitely need some more work under my belt to get up to that level. ;)

if you, or anyone else here, wants to talk about techniques for shooting cars...feel free to message me. I'd be more than happy to share any info i have...and fortunately, i have access to a wealth of knowledge on "how to shoot cars" and just photography in general. i do alright myself, but i work with a guy that used to be a professional photographer...so, i got that going for me ;)

Photomatrix huh? Never used that...heard of it...but never used it. How do you like it? I'm a photoshop guy, from back before there were layers and a history function...man, i'm gettin' old ;)

again, nice images...looking forward to seeing more of your work

iTrentz,

Can you please post the 3 (or more) source images for one of your hdri images...8-16 bit jpgs please?. (i know the originals are either RAW or 16 bit tiffs).

I don't need them to be extremely high res or anything either (1024x768 pixels maybe)...

I kinda want to futz around with them a bit, photoshop CS3 has an HDRI processor built-in and I want to try it out and see if I can replicate your results...they do like nice by the way :)
