So I had my trans out for awhile due to my release fork breaking. Decided to install a new clutch kit while everything was out. Ordered and installed the Competition stage 3.5 clutch kit and LWFW. My car is stage 3+ and I've personally done all the install work myself, however this is the first clutch I've ever done. I followed the service manual exactly though, or I would have thought :/ I got the car completely back together yesterday and as soon as I start it up there is a horrible loud noise which seems to sound like metal to metal contact. I shut the car off as soon as I heard this. Now I torqued everything down to spec. Flywheel, PP, etc. As well as used the alignment tool. I know the clutch disk is in right cause I'm pretty sure it only sits in there one way. I have no idea what the problem could be. Is it possible to install the starter upside down? Also wondering if its possible to bolt the trans up if the input shaft of the trans isn't aligned with the clutch disk. I don't see it being possible but I really don't know what else it could be. Someone help :(

I HAD SAME ISSUE... It is 99% the lower black metal plate that is covering the flywheel.. It is bolted to the block and sits under the trans where they meet. I removed mine and problem solved.

Alright I'll check that out, is there any reason why this flywheel would do it and my other flywheels haven't? Is it bigger or something?

probably bent it by accident like i did. I just removed it. Its useless and pointless

I took out the two motor mounts under the engine by the oil pan... Jacked up the motor about 3" from the subframe, and was very patient taking the two small bolts out.

Yep it was not fun, but much more fun than taking the trans out again.

Not take them out.. Take the nuts off the two lower motor mounts so that you can separate the block from the subframe.. Couple inches was good enough.

No :( the metal shield thing wasn't hitting the flywheel. I took out the starter and the teeth weren't messed up and it seemed to be moving back and forth properly. I really have no idea what it could be. I tried looking in the hole where the starter goes to see if I could see any damage to the flywheel teeth or anything else, and I think I seen some groves in the pressure plate cover, from some sort of contact. I'm taking it to a shop tomorrow to have them take it out and check everything. Its to much work to do it on jack stands. At this point I'd rather spend the cash and have it done. Is there any possibility of the PP not being bolted up center? I really hope I don't have to replace the brand new one.

Blazin09, You are our savior this weekend!

That plate is bendable, I think when youre manipluating the engine to get the input shaft of the trans in, its possible that the plate gets bent.

I will say, its not even required to remove the plate, You can take a prybar into the area and just bend it back.
PROBLEM SOLVED.
Many blessings,
