Thought I should share this with anyone doing injector upgrades to their 08+. When I got into the job of swapping out my injectors I found that the fuel rail protector plates were a huge - gigantic - pain in the ass. I think that I had to basically almost remove the intake manifold to get the damed plates off that cover the fuel rails/injectors.
On the driver side protector plate there is a ground wire coming off of the engine harness and fastening to the plate. I figured it was just a safety ground and not really needed... I absolutely did not want to put those god awful plates back on over the rails/injectors since it makes a 45 minute job into a 5 hour job to do anything with the injectors. Well I left the plates off and when I went to reflash my car, the AccessPort could not communicate with the vehicle... In fact the AP would not even power up. So I figured that the ground was more than just for purposes of safety... I took the ground strap off of the crossover pipe, bolted it together to the ground on the engine harness, and then I bolted the ground strap to the TGV risers. Powered up the car to try and reflash my new map, and, 'Presto!' the AP had power and I was able to reflash my PDX map for my new setup.
Those protector plates over the fuel rails are a god awful horrible design!! They (Subaru) absolutely do things to the cars when designing them to purposely make them hard as f*ck to modify. The fuel rail plates being one of the things I noticed Subaru purposely did to make it hard to modify the fuel system.
So if you're going to go with aftermarket fuel rails, then be warned that you will have to relocate a ground on the engine harness to someplace other than the protector plate.
One of the other things I noticed Subaru did is that on the TGV's, they deliberately put these plastic features in the design that do NOTHING at all other than make it incredibley hard to remove the TGVs. I should have taken a picture of this to post here.... But yeah, Subaru puts features into our cars to foil our plans at modifying them.
