Somebody asked the question on another forum whether or not the 08 WRX OEM uppipe has a catalytic converter or a pre-cat. The question did not get properly answered on that forum so I called the guys at Cobb Tuning (they're really friendly and helpful, by the way). They said that WRXs since the 06 model year do not have a cat in the uppipe. For a stage 2 upgrade, you would be fine keeping the stock uppipe. They indicated you would see a greater performance benefit from swapping it if you were doing a turbo upgrade. For those of us on a budget, I found this to be helpful info. Most of you probably already new this...but just in case, I thought I would pass this along. Why spend the money if you don't have to!

if someone were to stay w/ OTS maps, then an aftermarket up-pipe is not necessary, but can be beneficial.... of course not as beneficial as those w/ the 2.0L and a OE up-pipe. The benefit of having an aftermarket up-pipe is to help/increase flow.
