I've replaced the fuel pump and just about every relay behind the glovebox and the passenger side kick panel. It died on him on the way home a few days ago. I did all the afore mention repairs and was able to get it to start he drove it that evening and it was fine: it died again the following day. I repeated the efforts that got it running and still the fuse blows as soon as you put the key to the start position.

in my 94 wrx the fuel pump wiring loom passed under the rear seat cushion and eventually failed at the loom plug.(hopefully they have rectified this as it is an obvious engineering/design flaw ) however Just check the wiring as it sounds like a short somewhere
