Window Tinting!!

Have you had your windows tinted?

The WRX comes with the back windows already tinted and the fronts are left clear from the factory. I believe the rear tint is in the glass which makes it a bit harder to match (and slightly annoying!).

I personally had to get them done. Cheaper on the air con and fuel to keep cooler and - they just look good!

So I understand we will all be from all over Australia, so maybe post where you got yours done, and whether your happy with the work!

Its not only the VLT percentage of tint that you need to match (I can't find any official numbers from Subaru, and the dealership I rang couldn't help me either), you need to match the colour also!

The rear windows are pre-tinted in a blue/green tint.. I remember the first time I tinted the fronts I got a "yellow" tint  It looked awful!!

So I got a guy from solar tint, Robert Salvia from Hunters Hill Tinting in Sydney. He is mobile and comes to you, very competitive and best of all the windows matched very close.

You can get it done by a guy near you though, it is a solar tint product called HP Supreme.

Here is a link to the product

Has that greenish/blue tint in it so it matches up very well!

Further, apparently the rear factory tint does not protect from all types of light like proper aftermarket tint does, so some people even put a clear UV tint over the factory rear tinted windows.

Probably something to think about if you have young kids/baby in the back!

My rear window and front door windows are not tinted but all the rest are!

I need to do something about that, it looks horrible (caused by the hail!)

I know a guy at Tint-a-car in cannington that does an awesome job, might have to hit him up ;D

Not sure if its the same across most manufacturers.. but I think the rear windows have a tint in the glass. It cant be removed and is PITA to colour match perfectly. the front windows are just a slightly coloured glass. They also dont have any significant protection qualities in removing UV etc.

One good way to colour match them is to use the same colour tinted film on the fronts, that is the darkness your after, and then use a clear-to-very-slightly tinted film on the rear (even though they have a tint already).

Its pretty annoying as most car manufacturers do this now..

SLD All the way around it would have been? You need to look outwards from the inside against a white wall to see if its perfect.. It will be close - but not perfect. Unless you got the rear windows installed from a standard impreza (that came non-tinted from factory).

Also depends how fussy you are I guess! I cant stand how the front and back is lsightly different - but im a lunatic with these things..
