So I'm new to Subarus and I wanted to see if this is the same problem and this guy >> 09 wrx throw out bearing squeal. <<

What he is describing as a squealing sound when the clutch pedal is pressed in is the same thing I hear in my car when I start it cold and I press in the clutch all the way, then once it warms up the sound goes away. Now what you guys describe as squeaky in the youtube video is not what I hear, but some how both of these (the "squeaky" and the "squealing") issues turned out to be the poor welds on the firewall and ended up cracking. I just want to verify that these are one in the same issues and if they are I'm worried mine is the squealing category.

So now what I want to know is if I should take it to a dealership to have the firewall checked out.

I took the car in, when I bought it used, to a dealership to have it checked out (bought it at a non-subaru dealer) and I specifically asked him about a swirling sound when I press the clutch in when the car is cold. I left my car there and they did the inspection and when I came back and asking about what they found, he said nothing and that the sound was probably a hotspot that developed from holding the clutch pedal in while idling or in neutral. Now I found that weird because I never have the clutch pressed in unless I'm putting it in gear or switching between gears. I put it in the back of my mind and just accepted the sound as part of the car warming up and now that I took some time to research it I'm worrying that the cracked firewall could happen to me in the near future, the poster from the clubwrx forum said his happened at 16000 miles, which is where I'm at and the sound started as early as 7000.

I had the bearing chirp since like 3k miles. I am at 54k now and it didnt get worse nor better. The welds is a different story. I have that too. The broken welds sound when you depress the clutch pedal and at least in my case it sounds like a metal against rubber sound.

Not yet. I have been turned down by the dealership in which I bought the car because of course everything seems perfect to them. Right now I am dealing directly with SoA. They made a claim and told me to bring the car to a different dealership. Once I make an appointment I have to call back SoA with time and date and location and they will instruct the dealer what to do so I think I will get this done....as soon as school semester is over.

But as long as TOB chirp, everyone that I know that has a subaru has that noise. New, old no matter what. I bet there are people without the noise but as far as I can tell it seems very common. I got used to it.

does anyone have a DIY or walkthrough on how to remove the whole dashboard?

First off, I want to thank of all of you writing in this thread. Because of all of you and your input, Subaru is fixing my firewall squeak issue FOR FREE and I am outside my warranty by 17000 miles! All I did was write down on paper what was wrong and placed the link to this thread and left it in my car. I called SOA prior and requested a case number in case the dealer did not want to cooperate with fixing the issue.

So thank you! I will let you know how it is when I get it back.

Just got the car back... the good news is that the welds and firewall flexing issues are gone. Bad news is that the squeak is still there. They said its the clutch pedal "pivot" and the pedal broke due to my "heavy duty" clutch so they will not be replacing that free of charge... Not too sure how to approach this one since this is my third clutch and I paid for each clutch replacement myself and didn't use the warranty.

Hey all,
I have the terrible haunting squeaky clutch noise like so many others with a 2008 WRX for about the last 50k miles (Currently at 87) when cold and the last 30k all the time. Within the last 5k miles I've started to develop a click in the dash area once the car is warmed up.
The noise is just like that in this video
I've been doing round and a round with Subaru regarding the issue. No one would look at it, they all wanted $500 to take apart the dash and lube components or at least $100 to inspect beneath the wiper assembly. The last dealer specifically said they thought it was the clutch bushing. Finally I took apart the cowl + wiper assembly myself. The Spot welds still look intact on my vehicle, and I can't see the firewall flex when the clutch is pressed, but the slave cylinder moves several inches.. Any thoughts?
