Nope, don't need the adaptor. Spacing on what it was for, but you don't need it.

 

All you need is the Tactrix 2.0 "cable" (just the OBD2 attachment piece, and the USB cable to go into your computer).

I believe the adapters are for jumping the diagnostic connectors in older WRX's and possibly Mitsubishis.

The 2008+ WRX does not require and fussing with connectors. Just plug in the Tactrix cable to the OBD2 port, flash a map, and you're good to go.

 

My friend has a tactrx cable for his Evo9. Do you think it would work for my 08wrx?

 

only if he has a openport 2.0, The evo9 could use a openport 1.3, It depends on what cable he has. If it's is just a black cable then it's a 1.3 and you can't use it. If it's the clear case with blinking LED's and microSD slot, than it is a 2.0 and you can use it.
